2025 Kaufman County -Texas Master Gardener Training Class

Have you ever heard the title- MASTER GARDENER and wondered…”how can I become one of those?”  For those of you interested in becoming a Texas Master Gardener, we have great news for you. We will be starting the next class for the Kaufman County Master Gardeners on January 8, 2025. Classes will meet at the Kaufman County Extension office once a week (on Wednesdays) for 17 weeks. The Texas Master Gardener Program is an educational activity offered by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service.

Anyone with a willingness to learn and a desire to help others can become a Master Gardener. As a trainee in the Master Gardener Program, you must attend a minimum of 50 hours of instruction and volunteer 50 hours of service at one of our project locations to earn the title of Texas Master Gardener.

The cost of the program is $175, which covers the cost of the training manual, supplies, and your first-year association dues. The class will be limited to the first 18 paid students. Applicants will go through an interview process in early November. The Kaufman County Master Gardeners are looking for both men and women to be members. If you are interested in joining the Kaufman County Master Gardener group, please contact the Kaufman County Extension Office located at 2471 Hwy 34 in Kaufman or call 469-376-4520 or an application can be downloaded. The deadline to apply is Monday, October 16, 2024. For those who are accepted into this class, there will be an introductory meeting on Wednesday, December 11th at 9:00 am.

The Master Gardener Program provides invaluable training and educational opportunities. Objectives of the Master Gardener Program are to expand the capacity of Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service by distributing horticultural information to individuals and groups in the community, and to develop and enhance community programs related to horticulture. Depending on community needs, these may be environmental improvement activities, horticulture therapy projects or community and school garden programs.
